Entanglement Entropy of 3-d Conformal Gauge Theories with Many Flavors

چکیده
Three-dimensional conformal field theories (CFTs) of deconfined gauge fields coupled to gapless flavors of fermionic and bosonic matter describe quantum critical points of condensed matter systems in two spatial dimensions. An important characteristic of these CFTs is the finite part of the entanglement entropy across a circle. The negative of this quantity is equal to the finite part of the free energy of the Euclidean CFT on the three-sphere, and it has been proposed to satisfy the so called F -theorem, which states that it decreases under RG flow and is stationary at RG fixed points. We calculate the three-sphere free energy of nonsupersymmetric gauge theory with a large number NF of bosonic and/or fermionic flavors to the first subleading order in 1/NF . We also calculate the exact free energies of the analogous chiral and non-chiral N = 2 supersymmetric theories using localization, and find agreement with the 1/NF expansion. We analyze some RG flows of supersymmetric theories, providing further evidence for the F -theorem. AdS/CFT and Strong Subadditivity of Entanglement Entropy
Recently, a holographic computation of the entanglement entropy in conformal field theories has been proposed via the AdS/CFT correspondence. One of the most important properties of the entanglement entropy is known as the strong subadditivity. This requires that the entanglement entropy should be a concave function with respect to geometric parameters. It is a non-trivial check on the proposal...
متن کاملUniversal entanglement entropy in two-dimensional conformal quantum critical points
We study the scaling behavior of the entanglement entropy of two-dimensional conformal quantum critical systems, i.e., systems with scale-invariant wave functions. They include two-dimensional generalized quantum dimer models on bipartite lattices and quantum loop models, as well as the quantum Lifshitz model and related gauge theories. We show that under quite general conditions, the entanglem...
متن کاملEntanglement entropy and differential entropy for massive flavors
In this paper we compute the holographic entanglement entropy for massive flavors in the D3-D7 system, for arbitrary mass and various entangling region geometries. We show that the universal terms in the entanglement entropy exactly match those computed in the dual theory using conformal perturbation theory. We derive holographically the universal terms in the entanglement entropy for a CFT per...
متن کاملEntanglement entropy , conformal invariance and extrinsic geometry
We use the conformal invariance and the holographic correspondence to fully specify the dependence of entanglement entropy on the extrinsic geometry of the 2d surface Σ that separates two subsystems of quantum strongly coupled N = 4 SU(N) superconformal gauge theory. We extend this result and calculate entanglement entropy of a generic 4d conformal field theory. As a byproduct, we obtain a clos...

We consider the entanglement entropy for a sub-system in d + 1 dimensional SU(N) lattice gauge theory. The 1 + 1 gauge theory is treated exactly and shows trivial behavior. Gauge theories in higher dimensions are treated within Migdal-Kadanoff approximation. We consider the gauge theory in the confinement phase. We demonstrate the existence of a non-analytical change from the short distance to ...
